A Partner in Service: Samaritas
Samaritas, 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a social ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Formerly Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, its name was recently changed to Samaritas to let people know it is not just for Lutherans. The largest faith-based human service organization in Michigan, it provides help for all people in need regardless of religious affiliation, age, or national origin. Samaritas is the largest private foster care agency in Michigan, and also is the largest provider of refugee services in Michigan.
Samaritas staff and volunteers seek to walk with people in need, offering hope and compassion, while upholding their dignity. From the very beginning, they have reached out to individuals regardless of their religion, race, sexual orientation or ethnicity. Today, Samaritas spans the state’s Lower Peninsula with more than 70 programs in 40 cities. Samaritas diverse staff share a dedication to serving their fellow humans by doing the right thing, for the right reasons, every day.
